A locally renowned go-to spot for both sweet and savory crepes. Laid back, casual atmosphere with numerous options outside of crepes for breakfast (all day), lunch and dinner (7pm close). Conveniently located across the street from the Hotel Champlain in between the hotel and the ECHO Center (wedding venue).
Burlington Bay is the best spot downtown for a maple creemee with a view! They also have snack-shack type lunch options like sandwiches, wraps, salads, etc. We recommend heading to Skinny Pancake just across the street if looking for food food. But a maple creemee paired with a panoramic view of Lake Champlain on Burlington Bay's back deck is one of our favorite ways to enjoy a treat in the area.
Our FAVORITE place for craft cider and low-key the best wings in VT, amongst other delicious farm to table pub fare as seen on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Family-friendly and something for everyone including non-alcoholic ciders, mocktails, and guest beers from local breweries. Our #1 recommendation for local food and drink done right in a casual setting.
Madison's favorite Vermont pizza! Local ingredients, in-house brewing and sustainability at the forefront, American Flatbread is a BTV go-to for wood-fired pies and craft brews. Madison recommends the "Medicine Wheel" and swears by the "Evolution Salad" (Mike too)!
Mike's favorite pizza in the state! Wide variety of wood-fired pies crafted from local ingredients with a bunch of local beers on tap. In addition to usual small/large pies, cheese & pepperoni slices are also available daily. American Flatbread is good- but Folino's is the best VT has to offer! Madison loves Folino's too!
Mike's go-to: The BK Special *add hot honey drizzle*.
Splash is a casual outdoor seafood spot virtually floating on Lake Champlain. Mike enjoys the Haddock Tacos and a local pint; and Madison the lobster roll paired with a refreshing Dock-tail. Can’t go wrong with the unmatched views of the waterfront. Burlington isnt quite coastal, but dining on the water at Splash is as close as is gets in VT.
*Fun Fact: Mike and Jenny (Madisons Mom) met for the first time in 2012 over a meal at Splash!
Madison's favorite French bistro! Leunig's Bistro is one of the oldest restaurants in downtown Burlington. It offers classic French fare in a semi-upscale environment- a nice switch up from the chill/crunchy vibe at surrounding pubs & taverns. Located in the heart of Church St. Marketplace, it offers some of the best people watching and live music in the area.
Everything is good but Madison LOVES the pan seared salmon- Mike the steak frites :-)
Pro Tip: Early Bird Special is one of the best deals in town! (3pm-5pm Tues. - Sat.)
Take a leisurely walk along the water at Waterfront Park immediately north of the ECHO center (wedding venue), parallel to Lake street on the lake side of the railroad tracks. A Admire beautiful Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountain backdrop with a coffee to start the morning or a creemee at sunset for a true BTV experience. Stop at a swinging bench take in the scenery on a swinging bench as we love to do while at the Waterfront <3
Fun Fact: Mike was stung by a bee on one of these swinging benches in the middle of asking Madison to be his girlfriend on August 2nd, 2020. Slight disruption of Mike's gameplan that day, but he persevered nonetheless...
Kudos if you walk the half-mile north to see the Moran FRAME located at 1 Lake Street. Free and open to the public, the Moran FRAME is the steel superstructure remnants of the Moran Plant-, a former coal-fired power plant and Burlington's first source of electric heat. There, you can weave through the geometric steel structure, capture lake views from another perspective, and learn about Burlington's industrial beginnings.
For walking/running enthusiasts, continue north past the skate park on the Burlington Greenway Bike/Walk Path- the Parks & Rec jewel of the "Queen City." Stay on it long enough and you'll quite literally hit Steve & Stephanie's house (Madison's Dad & Step-Mom).
Stroll up and the down cute & quaint Church Street pedestrian mall. Whether supporting local businesses or just window-shopping along this main artery of downtown BTV, you'll see why Church Street Marketplace was awarded the Best Public Square in America by USAToday. Reward yourself with a treat from a local cart vendor or stop into the Ben & Jerry's scoop shop- Madison loves a cone, Mike a dish :)
Exactly what it sounds like- feast your eyes upon the worlds tallest filing cabinet! An attraction Madison could take or leave, but a favorite of Mikes. Worth a stop if youre in the South End near Burlington Beer Company just to say you saw it (its free and open 24/7 365- its literally just... there!)
One visitor had this to say:
Stunning. Breathtaking. Moving. I’ve toured the Taj Mahal and camped at the base of Denali. I’ve stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon and stared into the chasm below. I’ve sat in a private audience with the Dalai Lama. None of these experiences compare to the overwhelming bliss one experiences when they are in the presence of the most glorious of all the filing cabinets in the known universe. I’m a better person today, now that I have bowed at the base of the cabinet.
All aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen, Burlington's premier cruise ship offering 90min-2hr tours daily! There are a number of different cruises including a "Lunch on the Lake" cruise, scenic narrated cruise, and sunset cruises. All ages permitted, food and beverage offered a la carte while on board. A fantastic way to take in the landscape and learn about Lake Champlain and it's importance to the city of Burlington.
Be on the lookout for "Champ"- a lake monster that calls the deep depths of Lake Champlain home...
